What You Cooked, Is what you Get

A deficiency in Vitamin A for example can lead to weight loss, eyesight problems and weak immune system, while lack of enough Vitamin B12 can lead to anemia, loss of appetite and changes in the bone marrow. Likewise, a deficiency in the needed minerals can lead to paralysis, muscle weakness, convulsions, weight loss and tissue damage.

Unlike the meals out of your dog's favorite recipes for healthy dog food, commercially-bought food for your pooches have been found to contain toxic substances like Sodium Pentobarbital – the chemical used to put animals to “sleep.” Consuming this over a long period of eating commercial dog food can cause irreversible damage to your dog's system, or worse, can kill him.

Lead is also found in some commercial dog foods. As well as butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), Ethoxyquin and Propylene Glycol. These are used to stabilize fat content and preserve the dog food. With these ingredients in their food, you risk your dog developing kidney problems, cancer and the destruction of your dog's red blood cells

Remember, however, that even though you make your own dog food it is no guarantee that your dog will be health problem-free – as we always point out, what you put in to his daily meal can make a huge difference. But feeding your dog your own dog food, can keep him away from the possibility of food poison or sickness since you do control his diet – and you know for sure what goes into his mouth and system.

With all this in mind, it may be more beneficial for you and your little furry friend, to make your own dog food. It may cost you a bit of your time, but that will be well worth all the joy you'll get out of you pet – and your four-legged baby will surely be kissing the cook for that.
